關於比較級的用法

有一到測驗題目是這樣的:
Brian is_than his brother Bruce.空格有4個選項:
(A)more smart and polite
(B)smarter and polite
(C)smarter and more polite
(D)more smart and politer
我知道這題要選是比較級的形容詞,答案是(C),但為什麼不能選(D)?
我知道(A)與(B)都錯在polite沒有用比較級的模式.

(D)選項的錯誤在於使用了 more 來修飾形容詞 smart，因為 smart 是一個單音節的形容詞，所以應該使用比較級形式 smarter，polite 的比較級應該使用 more polite，而不是 politer。

所以正確的形容詞比較級形式是 smarter and more polite，也就是要選擇選項(C)而不是選項(D)。
